Duplicating a tar data from my linux computer system to a remote web server: linux

I do not recognize if this is the appropriate area to ask this concern, otherwise please straight me to the appropriate area.

So I have this tar.gz data as well as I intend to send this to a bluewaves web server at my college making use of scp. If you can aid me, I do not actually recognize just how to do this so I was questioning.
