Here is a round up of all the LiPo batteries I tested for micro drones in 1S, 2S, 3S and 4S with capacity from 250mAh, 300mAh, 450mAh to 650mAh. Performance is based on maximum discharge rate and value, to determine which are the best for tiny whoops and micro quad.

When it comes to picking LiPo batteries for our micro drones, maximum discharge rate is probably the most important factor. Better discharge rate means less voltage sag when you go hard on throttle, and for longer. C-Rating was supposed to tell us that, but the numbers provided by manufacturers are normally inflated, so take that as a grain of salt. And that’s why I am running these tests myself.

Sometimes you see “HV” or LiHV” on the label, that means “high voltage”. LiHV Batteries allow you to charge them up to 4.35V per cell instead of 4.20V. The main advantage is that the higher voltage at full charge can make your quad a little bit more powerful, because brushless motors can run at a higher maximum RPM.

There is concern with longevity of LiHV batteries, and in my opinion the difference in performance isn’t a huge deal. Just make sure you stay with only HV, or non-HV batteries, you don’t want to get them mixed up in charging, as charging a normal LiPo to 4.35V per cell increases the chance of fire drastically.

All three 1S batteries tested here seem to have pretty similar performance in terms of maximum discharging rate. However they are quite different when it comes to price and weight, so these become the main considerations.

The Nitro Nectar battery is made by NewBeeDrone, one of the smallest pack (at 250mah) you can find out there that provides decent amount of power.

I found an awesome deal on Amazon (linked above), you get 8 batteries for only $24 that works out to be less than $4 per battery. I don’t think you can find a better deal than these batteries! Though they are a little heavier than the rest.

Most 1S LiPo these days don’t have wires anymore, for the weight saving and lower resistance. But you might appreciate the “extended” battery connector in these GNB 1S batteries, as it makes plugging in slightly more flexible. And yet it’s lighter than the BetaFPV given the same capacity and performance. However it’s quite expensive.

I am surprised by how cheap this battery is given the high quality, a very “punchy” pack with very small sag throughout the whole discharge cycle. It’s also relatively light weight compared to other packs with similar capacity and performance.

One of the best performers in the 2S LiPo testing (even better than the XF Power), yet it’s a few grams lighter, and only $10. My go to 450mah 2S if you don’t have faith in the less known “XF Power” brand.

Although being “80C”, same as the 450mAh from GNB, this battery shows more voltage sag, especially towards the end of the pack. Interestingly it’s not that much heavier than the 450mAh pack, which suggests it’s either of lower C-rating or lower capacity. This is confirmed by the capacity test which shows it’s about 20mAh short. I’d probably stick with the 450mah. If you are looking for flight time, check out the GNB 650mah below.

It has similar specs to the GNB 2S 300mAh HV 80C, except it’s nearly 3 grams heavier. That’s possibly due to the larger gauge wires. But voltage sag is slightly worse than the GNB, and the price difference is only $1, so I’d probably go for the GNB instead if you want batteries of this size.

I’ve tested quite a few GNB batteries, most have been great except this one. Voltage sag was simply awful, can’t even sustain a full throttle punch-out for more than a few seconds. Battery gets very hot too. DO NOT Recommend.

This has to be one of the best value 2S 450mAh I’ve tested so far. It’s a slightly bigger battery than what it claims to be, therefore the maximum discharge current is higher than we would expect. It’s only $9 and it comes with a balance lead protector (tbh kind of useless). Mind you this is heavier than other ordinary 450mAh pack.

Edit: Nick in the comment mentioned he had mixed experience with this battery, so keep that in mind.

This is the non-HV version of the GNB 3S 300mah, however the performance is pretty average. I’d say it’s pretty similar to the Happymodel 3S 300mah. If dimension doesn’t matter, I’d recommend the HV version instead since they cost the same.
