Apple made a visual treat for owners of its Vision Pro headset: Submerged, a scripted short film recorded in Immersive Video. That means it’s in 3D and “You’re not watching a movie anymore, you are inside the story,” according to the director.

Update: Vision Pro users can watch Submerged now. Simply open the Apple TV app on the headset to find it.
Submerged takes Vision Pro into a new medium
Vision Pro is a new product category for Apple, and Cupertino works hard to drum up interest. One of the ways is by creating unique content. A prime example is Marvel Studios’ What If…? An Immersive Story, an app that launched in the spring for the AR/VR headset.
And soon there’ll be Submerged, “the first scripted film in Apple Immersive Video,” according to Apple. It’s a short action movie set below the surface of the ocean during the dark days of World War II. The official summary says:
“A WWII submarine crew combats a harrowing torpedo attack in this adrenaline-pumping thrill ride. From filmmaker Edward Berger, director of the Academy Award® winning All Quiet on the Western Front.”
The film’s premiere is Thursday, October 10. The sole option to watch Submerged is on Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s headset.

Breaking new ground… under water?
The voiceover for the trailer goes into making an immersive film for Vision Pro, not the action shown in the short film.
“Everything we’re doing here is the first time that anyone’s ever doing it,” says Edward Berger. “When you put on the Vision Pro, it does change the way you think about creating a story. It’s a wonderful new medial that just expands the horizon of storytelling … because you’re not watching a movie anymore. You are inside the story.”
Berger is clearly enthusiastic. “It’s going to change the future filmmaking.”
