ID.4 media display phone holder / storage

Storage area for phones and other bits and bobs for Volkswagen ID.4.

I came up with this idea when I was out with the family and I had my phone in the charger hole. I had my hotspot on to allow my 2yo to watch Peppa pig in the back seat. Due to the location of the charger hole being buried in the centre of the vehicle, it was causing signal loss just enough to cause buffering pauses. Taking the phone out of the hole stopped this so I wanted somewhere to put my phone that the signal was better, up near the windscreen seams like the perfect place and behind the media display was wasted space.

Has 3 compartments for phones, each are tall enough to hold the phone so it sticks out the top for easy removal, deep enough to allow even foldable phones and wide enough to hold larger phones.

I myself have a Galaxy Fold 3 that fits nicely and my wife has a note 20 Ultra that fits, though has some wiggle room (I fixed this with some craft foam on the inside to reduce the vibration noise)

Behind each phone compartment is a smaller, shallower one with a curve toward the front to facilitate getting coins out easier(I put foam in here also to reduce noise).

It is designed to hang on the display however I would recommend securing it with double sided pads to stop it vibrating or coming lose on a sharp turn.

I printed this an an Ender 3 Pro so it is split into 3 files due to the small build volume. I have included the full model if you have a larger printer and want to one shot it.

I used Sunlu Black PLA, I don't live in a climate where the inside of a car gets hot so didn't need to use any heat resistive materials.

I went with 5 walls and 5% infill as the area isn't structurally needed.

I recommend printing the end pieces (left & right) on their end with the over hang on the build plate to reduce support requirements.

They can be plastiwelded or glued together using your preferred glue, personally I prefer plastiwelding.
