The new Oura Ring 4, with a sleek and subtle design and improved health sensing, is now available for preorders, ŌURA said Thursday. Shipping of the new smart ring — which is sure to spark a new round of speculation on when Apple will launch its own — begins October 15.
“The next-generation Oura Ring 4, reimagined Oura App, and the development of the Smart Sensing platform represent significant steps forward for wearables across accuracy, comfort, personalization and design,” said ŌURA CEO Tom Hale.

Oura Ring 4 brings smart sensing with more accuracy and comfort
At the heart of the Oura Ring 4 is the innovative Smart Sensing technology. It allows the ring to adapt dynamically to each user’s unique finger physiology, ensuring continuous and accurate data collection, the company said. The new design incorporates recessed sensors, doubling the number of signal pathways from 8 to 18 compared to its predecessor, Oura Ring 3. Meanwhile, Apple, now on Apple Watch 10 and Ultra 2 as its health-tracking wearables, has reportedly worked on a smart ring of its own, having won a related patent in 2020, as many folks wish it would hurry up and put one out.
“Apple’s next new product should be a smart ring,” Cult of Mac‘s Ed Hardy wrote in July, following Samsung’s new Galaxy Ring release. “No, not so you can scroll through Instagram on a teeny-tiny display. The Apple Ring would be packed with health sensors that allow wearers to track their exercise and fitness goals while carrying no other device.”
An external study conducted in August 2024 demonstrated impressive improvements in Oura Ring 4:
- 120% better signal quality for blood oxygen sensing.
- 30% increase in accuracy for overnight SpO2 measurement.
- 15% more accurate breathing disturbance index.
- Significant reduction in gaps for both daytime and nighttime heart rate measurements.

The Oura Ring 4 features an all-titanium construction with a thinner profile and smoother interior than before, improving comfort for 24/7 wear, according to ŌURA. It’s available in an expanded range of 12 sizes (4-15) and six colors, including a new glossy black finish with tungsten PVD coating for enhanced durability.
Accompanying the new hardware is a revamped Oura App, available on both iOS and Android. The app now offers a more streamlined interface with three main sections:
- Today: Provides dynamic, time-sensitive information and Score Shortcuts for quick health metric overviews.
- Vitals: Allows users to delve deeper into specific health scores.
- My Health: Focuses on long-term metrics such as Cardiovascular Age and Sleep Trends.

- Automatic Activity Detection (AAD) now covers more than 40 different activities with automatic heart rate detection and heart rate zones, the company noted.
- Updated Daytime Stress feature to help users understand the physiological impact of various habits.
- Expanded women’s health offerings, including the upcoming Fertile Window feature.
- Oura Labs, now available on Android as well as iOS, allows users to test experimental features like Symptom Radar and Meals.
- The new Oura Advisor, an AI-powered conversational feature, helps users understand their health data.
