I have a MacBook Pro 2023 16" Apple M3 Max running Tahoe 26.2. I was trying to figure out why my notifications pop banners have recently stopped when I noticed something called kerberos in the notifications center. Never seen it before.
What is it? Should I remove it? If so, how?
I do see it’s some sort of authentication protocol. But looking for a little more plain English explaining and wether or not I need it, safe, etc… I dont see a kerberos app or the like. Thank you.
Why is Kerberos using a Word icon and why and for what is Kerberos allowed to give me Notifications?
Previous answer below from after Monterey install leads to Apple page that explains extensions. I have no extensions installed. I have no kerberos app installed. I also have not seen kerberos on my computer until after Tahoe install which leads me to believe it’s new with Tahoe.
I’m not a programmer and know no programming formally – so maybe someone can explain in more plain English than what is on the Apple site, what Kerberos is and why its now visible in Notifications app whereas before Tahoe , on my Mac, it was not there.
Finally, here is a screenshot from my wife’s MBP and her icon is different. Odd. We are both on 26.2 Tahoe.
