The web design platform Webflow today announced new updates to its platform to align it more with the vibe coding experience, allowing any user to bring their ideas to life regardless of their coding skills.
According to the company, this new capability, App Gen, enables users to move from creating websites into creating web experiences.
It builds on the launch of Webflow Cloud, a full-stack platform for hosting apps directly in Webflow that was announced earlier this year. App Gen leverages a site’s existing design system, content, and structure so that each new creation aligns with their brand and can scale up using Webflow’s cloud infrastructure.
The new capability automatically applies all of a site’s topography, colors, and other layout variables to provide a consistent visual experience between the existing site and new AI-generated features. It also can reuse existing Webflow components to further ensure brand consistency and can connect to the site’s CMS to turn structured content into data-driven interfaces that stay up-to-date across the site.
Some example use cases for App Gen include building an event calendar that displays upcoming events from a customer’s CMS, a pricing calculator that adjusts estimates based on their CMS data, or a job board that syncs open roles from their content collections, Webflow explained.
App Gen is now available in public beta, and during this time period, it will be free to use, though any apps deployed to production in Webflow Cloud will follow its pricing.
The company is also working on expanding the functionality to handle authentication, databases, third-party integrations, and complex logic. It also plans to launch Component Gen, which allows components to be generated with AI.
