Gas Town by Kilo multi-agent orchestrator now available

Gas Town by Kilo, a cloud-hosted version of a multi-agent orchestrator that turns a single developer into an engineering team, is generally available today.  By running it on Kilo Cloud with the Kilo Gateway behind it, it removes the need to self-host and adds managed infrastructure, elastic scaling and more than 500 models run through a single API.

Gas Town is the brainchild of developer Steve Yegge, who announced the project in January as an agent orchestrator, or as he described it in the announcement blog post, “I predicted someone would lash the Claude Code camels together into chariots, and that is exactly what I’ve done with Gas Town. I’ve tamed them to where you can use 20–30 at once, productively, on a sustained basis.”

Then, in March, Yegge introduced Wasteland, a federated system where users can look for tasks they need on a “Wanted Board,” then — upon completion of the work, have it validated with a stamp to attest to the quality of the work. “If Gas Town turns a single developer into an engineering team, the Wasteland turns a network of developers into a workforce,” Yegge explained. Anyone can run their own instance of Wasteland, which he said can be thought of as “a professional ledger that you never have to write yourself, because your work writes it for you.”

Wasteland, built on the Dolt SQL database, doesn’t require GasTown, but by using it together, Yegge said it works like this:

Your “Mayor” of Gas Town claims the work, manages DoltHub pull requests, while the gateway handles the model and the infrastructure is packaged by Kilo into a single managed container.

And, every stamp earned goes into your work history, which helps build your reputation.

As a caveat, Yegge has stated that the Wasteland project is still in its infancy, but noted the proof is in Gas Town, where a single developer “can operate at the scale of a small engineering team.” Wasteland, he. noted, extends that to “coordination across developers, projectsand organizations.”

Gas Town by Kilo is live now. To get started, head to the Kilo Dashboard to spin up your town and connect to a Wasteland. Both Gas Town and Wasteland repos are open on GitHub.
