EASA Launches Impact Assessment for Drone Design Compliance in Europe

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is launching an impact assessment to evaluate different options for assessing compliance with the design requirements of drones operated under the “Specific Category” (SAIL) up to Level III.

This initiative aims to establish a clear and efficient framework for ensuring the safety of drone operations in European airspace. To achieve this, a comprehensive understanding of the current drone landscape is crucial.

Collaborative Effort to Gather Industry Data

In support of EASA’s assessment, the Joint European Authorities for Civil Aviation (JEDA) has launched a brief survey specifically targeted at Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operators across Europe. This survey will provide valuable data on the types and number of drone models currently in use, along with insights into how these drones are typically operated.

The data gathered through this collaborative effort will be instrumental in shaping a robust and adaptable compliance assessment process for drones operating under SAIL up to Level III.
