I created a USB flash drive Windows 25H2 installer for my 21.5-inch, Mid-2011 iMac (model Identifier: iMac12,1). See the section below titled "How I Created USB Flash Drive Installer" for the steps used. When UEFI booting from the flash drive, I am met with the following error message.
Windows 11 Setup
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Error code: 0xD000A000 – 0x40031
Below is a screenshot showing the error message.
Selecting the Close button causes the Mac to restart.
I have the following questions.
- What is causing this error message?
- What can be done to prevent the window with this error message from appearing?
How I Created USB Flash Drive Installer
I used my 2011 iMac to create the Windows 11 25H2 USB flash drive installer. The operating system is macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, and the web browser is Firefox 115.30.0esr. The steps employed are given below.
-
I downloaded the English (United State) Windows 11 25H2 ISO file for x64 devices from the Microsoft Download Windows 11 website. The name of the downloaded file was
Win11_25H2_English_x64.iso. -
I downloaded Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621. This download should be the same as found by using the macOS High Sierra Boot Camp Assistant application on this Mac to download the Windows Support Software. After downloading, I used the Finder application to unzip the download to the
BootCamp5.1.5621folder. -
I used the Finder application to copy the contents of both downloads to an MBR partitioned, ExFAT formatted USB flash drive named
Win11_25H2. Next, I renamed the fileAutoUnattend.xmlin the root directory of this flash drive toNoAutoUnattend.xml.
Below is a Finder application view of the files and folders in the root folder of this flash drive.
