Two of my family members got new phones recently and they wound up inadvertently leaving a named family group conversation we held several years of text history. Somehow they created a new group conversation with everyone in it and that started off a new group text history in a new thread. When I try to add the members back into my old thread where the bulk of the full family history is I get prompted with
Create a New Group
Contacts can only be added to a new MMS group with the same members.
[ Cancel ] [ New Group ]
Is there a way for members to get back into the old text thread and consolidate threads and move messages around? What actions would someone and/or their device have conducted to result in such an outcome?
I see traces in the Family group saying things like
Text Message * RCS
Mon, Feb 3 at 1:00 PM
User1 left the conversation.
Tue, Feb 4 at 8:30am
User3 left the conversation.
Text Message * SMS
User3…
Somehow User3 left the conversation but then got aded back today and now the family group text is just 3 of us and I am clueless how to fix this. In case it matters the new phones were some kind of Android, however those family members were always Android users. I also tried to delete the name and group photo of the group text
You removed the group photo.
You removed the name from the conversation.
neither deletions seem to have fixed the problem.
Before
Family Group: Myself User1 User2 User3 User4
After
Family Group: Myself User2 User3
unnamed family group: Myself User1 User2 User3 User4
I asked the others in the old group if we ever had a text group comprising of members Myself, User2, and User3, they did not recall us ever having such a subgroup before so there must have been no existing group in the messages app history to redirect these messages to.
