The vivo X100 Pro is still a China exclusive but is set to make its global debut next week. This is vivo’s top-tier flagship and is as high-end as you could wish for.

Upfront, it has a 6.78-inch 120Hz 1260x2800px AMOLED with up to 3,000 nits of brightness. It’s a superb display, as you can imagine, complete with thin bezels and the now characteristic for the series curving bezels.

The back is where things get state-of-the-art. The triple camera has all the right to consider itself the best around. The main camera has a 23mm f/1.8 lens and Sony’s 50MP IMX989 1-inch sensor.

Then there’s the 15mm autofocusing ultrawide camera and another 50MP sensor. But the eyecatcher is the world’s first mobile telephoto lens certified by Zeiss APO. The apochromatically corrected zoom lens optics align green, blue, and red colors into the same focus plane which should translate to improved clarity and less fringing at contrast edges. The new floating periscope module features an f/2.57 aperture and 100mm equivalent focal length with 4.3x optical and up to 100x digital zoom. This
is arguablythe camera we’re most excited about.

The vivo X100 Pro is almost identical in dimensions to its predecessor – same height, 0.8mm wider, 0.4mm thinner, 6g heavier. But the clear difference comes when we compare the camera islands. The new phone’s triple setup dwarfs the old one’s. The main and ultrawide cameras are more or less identical, but the difference between the old 50mm zoom camera and the new 100mm is noticeable.

And while that 50mm f/1.6 was very capable, we expect a new level of imaging from the 100mm zoom on the X100 Pro.

Last but not least, the vivo X100 Pro packs a bigger-than-the-norm 5,400mAh battery with 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, and we expect solid numbers from it.

Then there’s the SoC – the vivo X100 Pro is the first Dimensity 9300 phone we’ve had at the office and it’s a unique configuration with four Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720s – all performance cores. We’ll delve into the chip’s performance and thermals in detail in our review.
