A handsome and charming hedge fund manager gets fired and turns to a life of crime, stealing from his well-heeled neighbors by night — inadvertently uncovering their surprisingly dangerous secrets. That’s the gist of the entertaining trailer Apple TV+ dropped recently for drama Your Friends & Neighbors. Starring Jon Hamm, Olivia Munn and Amanda Peet, it debuts April 11.
And get this — Apple has so much confidence in the new show, it green-lighted the second season before the first one even aired.
Update: Your Friends & Neighbors started streaming on Apple TV+ Friday (actually Thursday evening, per the streamer’s usual practice). Reviews so far are good. The Daily Beast said Hamm aand Peet “are at the top of their game” in the show. For NPR, the drama brought to mind John Cheever’s classic novels about the soullessness of American suburbs. And Deadline said the series “combines social commentary, dark humor, twisty relationships and a murder mystery.” And the already planned season two might be darker in tone.

Judging by the trailer, in which Hamm goes full-on cat burglar, Your Friends & Neighbors looks like a good bet for Apple and a keeper for drama fans who like hefty doses of intrigue and sex. The show comes to us from best-selling author Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, Warrior). He created it and serves as executive producer along with Hamm. In addition to Hamm, Munn and Peet, it stars Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Eunice Bae, Isabel Marie Gravitt and Donovan Colan.
“No one would ever suspect a guy like me,” Hamm’s voiceover intones as the trailer opens, unveiling a country-club life that costs a lot of money to maintain. In lieu of a steady income, Hamm’s character intends to pay the bills with fenced Rolex watches and pearl necklaces.
“After being fired in disgrace, Andrew ‘Coop’ Cooper (Hamm), a hedge fund manager still grappling with his recent divorce, resorts to stealing from his neighbors’ homes in the exceedingly affluent Westmont Village, only to discover that the secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades might be more dangerous than he ever imagined,” Apple TV+ said, describing the show.

Tropper Ink produces the new series for Apple Studios. Tropper serves as showrunner, director and executive producer under his overall deal with Apple TV+. Hamm executive produces alongside Connie Tavel and Craig Gillespie. Gillespie directs episodes 101-102. Stephanie Laing, Greg Yaitanes and Tropper direct other episodes.

The first nine episodes of Your Friends & Neighbors‘ joins other dramas on Apple TV+ with two episodes on Friday, April 11, followed by one new episode weekly through Friday, May 30.
