Databricks releases agentic coworker Genie One

Databricks today at its Data & AI Summit announced the release of Genie One, a new agentic coworker designed for business teams. This product launch expands the Genie suite of AI tools, which now includes Genie One, Genie Agents, and Genie App Builder.

The Genie Suite Components

Genie One functions as an automated coworker that connects to business data, both structured and unstructured. It operates across Databricks and connected external applications. Unlike earlier iterations that focused on analytics for data stored within Databricks, Genie One integrates with third-party tools such as Google Drive, Jira, Slack, Confluence, and SharePoint. Users can access Genie One via web, iOS, and Android platforms. The tool is capable of answering questions, producing documents and reports, managing alerts, scheduling tasks, and executing actions using MCP tools.

The platform is supported by the Genie Ontology, a context layer that acts as the foundation for the system. This layer automatically extracts and updates information from organizational data, including files, tickets, chat logs, and meetings. By using this context, Genie One aims to retrieve information from authoritative data sources rather than relying on interpretation of fragmented documents, with the objective of increasing accuracy and reducing latency.

Expanded Product Features

The suite expansion includes two primary development tools:

  • Genie Agents: This feature allows teams to save interactions as reusable agents. These agents retain the memory, sources, and instructions of a conversation, enabling users to share and repeat workflows across teams.
  • Genie App Builder: This provides an environment for building business applications. Teams can upload business context to generate a build plan and application preview. These applications operate under the governance of Unity Catalog, which manages access controls and permissions.

Databricks also introduced two additional specialized agents:

  • Genie Code: An agent for data teams that assists with planning, building, and executing data engineering, machine learning, and analytics workflows. It includes a workspace for tracking progress and managing projects.
  • Genie ZeroOps: A background monitoring agent that observes data assets such as pipelines, jobs, and models. It investigates issues and suggests resolutions for performance or operational problems.

Databricks states that the Genie suite is intended to solve context fragmentation in enterprise environments. By grounding AI in curated, governed enterprise data, the company seeks to provide reliable answers and automated actions for operational tasks. The entire suite, including the new agents and builders, is governed by Databricks’ Unity Catalog to maintain data security and compliance across the organization.
